Shetland is an ideal location to develop UK capability in North Sea Decommissioning. It is close to the Northern North Sea area and offers deep-water anchorages; current developments mean that the largest barges
and structures will be able to be taken at quayside. Long term prospects are also healthy, with an estimated 40 years’ worth of multi-billion £ work in decommissioning redundant oil and gas structures in the North Sea.
Historically, financial support of £168,000 was awarded for the construction of the Greenhead decommissioning pad, plus a further £97,500 for an onsite crane. In 2014, £628,000 cash funding has been awarded to further develop its decommissioning infrastructure in Lerwick. Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) funding of £1.1m has also been awarded.
In addition, HIE has assisted Peterson through the provision of workshops and networking opportunities, including events in co-operation with Energy North and Decom North Sea.
