HIE Inverness and East Highland now serves an enlarged area with a population of around 134,000 people. The area covers from Tain in the North to Dalwhinnie in the south, Auldearn in the east to Fort Augustus in the west. It includes the northern end of the Great Glen on the shores of the Moray Firth and stretches south beyond Aviemore and the Cairngorm mountains. The area is topographically diverse and its strategic position has ensured a rich economic, political and social history.

The City of Inverness - the Highland Capital, the Black Isle and Easter Ross, the Moray Firth town of Nairn, Cairngorm and Strathspey lie at the heart of the area
