Communications

The area has high quality road, rail, air and sea links. Future growth, however, will depend on helping to create better transport and communication links.

We have an important lobbying role to fulfil to help secure the optimum transport links for the area, and are regularly consulted by other public bodies on transport issues. We also offer advice on effective transport solutions for individual businesses, and will assist towards the costs of training to ensure that companies and public bodies operating in this arena have well trained and skilled staff. The area has a crucial role to play in the provision of suitable transport links with the rest of the Highlands and Islands.

There are regular daily flights between Inverness and London Gatwick and Standsted Airports, Birmingham (from 4th November) and Manchester, as well as Glasgow, Edinburgh and to the Northern and Western Isles.

Knowledge, information and telecommunications continues to be the fastest growing sector of the Highlands and Islands economy, bring with it a high rate of job creation. The area is providing a base for some of the most exciting developments in the field, as we move into a new era of internet-enabled businesses operating worldwide.
