Based in HIE's main office in Inverness, the international affairs team works to promote and develop the Highlands and Islands in a global context.

A key function of the team is to ensure that European funding, and other opportunities, are successfully secured and effectively distributed throughout the area.  The work of the international affairs team to facilitate this function can be broadly considered in three categories:

  1. Networking
  2. Influencing
  3. Securing EU funding

The international affairs team networks to influence, and influences to win funds and other benefits for the area.

The team also plays an important role in the provision of information on European policies, legislation, programmes and opportunities and is one of the European Commission's official Europe Direct information relays.  Follow the menu links to find out more.
