The quality of the natural environment in the Western Isles is unique. Living in this environment is a community with a strong cultural identity. Life in the Western Isles relates directly to the Gaelic language, the crofting system and the physical geography of the islands.

The unspoilt environment of the Western Isles has become an economic asset, and the real potential for high quality of life in communities of real character is now recognised both within and beyond these shores.

We believe that a renewed focus on building confident communities, the continued diversification of our economy and the potential for exploiting new technology provide very positive platforms for sustainable growth.
