The teaching assistant (TA) can help you structure a good project description. You will receive confirmation from one of the TAs when your application is complete.
With the help of the faculty, each team of interns will select the business/internship which they believe is the most suitable. There are three times as many internships as teams, so we cannot guarantee companies will receive a team.
Students will send their résumés and plan to meet the CEO on or about Friday 11 September 2009. If this time is not possible for you, please add a note to your E-Lab application stating that you will need a different initial meeting time.
During your kick off meeting, the student team will work with you to finalize a one-page project plan defining what will be accomplished, how these objectives will be measured, and what the milestones will be.
The interns will execute the project with alacrity, and learn in the process. Travel costs are reimbursed by the company. Upon completion of the project, the interns present two reports:
- to the faculty (Alan MacCormack, et al)
- to you, the host firm CEO.
Student grades for the course depend on the quality of their work as judged by the faculty.
All client materials are kept STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL. All students on the course meet together in class on Wednesdays during the semester for lectures, to give and get advice, and to share their experiences. Profesors Alan MacCormack and Ramy Hakim are available throughout the semester to provide advice and assistance.
What would be the cost to my company? All travel costs of students to visit and work with the company onsite are to be reimbursed by the company. After the semester is over, MIT typically request a totally voluntary donation of stock (or cash) with a value of at least $2,000 from companies that receive and are satisfied with a student team.
They strongly prefer host companies to make their contribution in stock rather than cash. The money is then used to support the E-Lab course and other programs and activities of the MIT Entrepreneurship Center.
What would my time commitment be? E-Lab course leader Professor Alan MacCormack will potentially be available during August 2009 to give a short seminar on the programme and to meet with interested companies on a 1-1 basis that have the potential to host a team.
If your company is selected by a student team, you can expect to meet with them early in September 2009. This time is used for the company to meet their team, determine if the team is a good fit, and further refine the scope of the project and set milestones. Additionally, there is an appreciation and networking reception for all participating company CEOs. The event is held near the end of the MIT semester. This year the reception will be held on 04 November 2009 at the Faculty Club.
