Contact centres
Contact centres have been one of the major success stories in the Highlands and Islands in recent years. A pool of knowledgeable and motivated labour and high speed digital links have been the crucial factors in attracting this work to the area. It is envisaged the contact centre sector in the area will soon be supporting a payroll of circa 4,000. Various large national companies such as Cap Gemini Ernst and Young, BT, TSC, and Vertex provide a spectrum of facilities for customers, including technical support and data management services. As diverse as the services provided is the scale of operations. While BT employs over 1,200 at four locations, flexibility allows for much smaller ventures like Nexus in Dornoch and Linaxis on Islay to thrive too. HIE’s close working relationships with the sector have reaped benefits and rightly earned the Highlands and Islands a reputation as an industry centre of excellence. HIE also has a useful working relationship with the CCA which is the professional body for call and contact centres in the UK. CCA offers may useful services and their web address is noted at the foot of this page.
