A Strategy for Gaelic

The bones of an integrated strategy for the development of Scots Gaelic (Gàidhlig) were set out by HIE in May 1993 in the paper "The Dynamics of Gaelic Development". These were developed to form the mission, strategy and operational plan for Scotland's Gaelic development agency Comunn na Gàidhlig (CNAG).

Mission

Grow Gaelic! by promoting the language at all levels

Priorities

Gaelic Medium Education to create the new Gaelic speaking generation.
Economic Development to create the wealth to sustain it.
Cultural/Arts Development to enrich the experience of Gaelic living.
Promoting the Value of Gaelic Development to gather support.

These tasks formed the basis of a detailed and targeted contract between HIE and CNAG.
