Highlands and Islands Enterprise works in partnership with the local authorities in the Highlands and Islands to ensure that the HIE area secures maximum benefit from European policies and funding opportunities. In order to acheive this an office in Scotland House, Brussels is staffed by two HIEP officers who are employed by HIE and are part of the International affairs team. 

The main aims of the Highlands and Islands European partnership are:

• to gather intelligence on EU policies
• to influence EU policy development
• to promote the Highlands and Islands region in Europe
• to find partners for EU-funded projects
