As well as the team responsible for driving WES forward day-to-day, we also have an Advisory Group. The group will act as a forum for support and guidance to WES. It will also consider how best to develop the WES programme to achieve the aims and objectives of the organisation. Group members have been appointed for a three-year term. WES Advisory Group Chairman
Steve Thomson is a Tiree based businessman with a background in consulting and banking. Steve worked latterly as a Managing Director of Credit Suisse First Boston and the Russian investment bank United Financial Group, before taking over an aviation consulting business in 2000.
Stuart Bradley has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. He is a Member of the IET and is the Strategy Manager at the Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) responsible for Offshore Renewables, including Wave, Tidal and Offshore Wind.
Dr. Björn Bolund
Bjorn is Head of Marine Energy at Vattenfall. He has also worked with supply chain businesses for wave energy, carrying out economic and technical assessment of wave concepts.
Developer and a financier
Andrew Buglass has been a developer and a financier of large scale energy projects since 1992. His experience spans energy projects valued in excess of £11bn in over 30 countries. This included senior roles with PowerGen plc, Unocal Corporation and the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Joao Cruz has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and is a senior partner in Cruz Atcheson Consulting Engineers. He has been involved in wave energy for the last 14 years, having started his career in wave energy in 2001 while completing his MEng at IST in Lisbon.

Michael Bullock has over twenty years’ insurance experience in the London and Bermudian markets, having helped to found a Lloyd’s Broker and a specialist renewable energy underwriting unit for the Ascot syndicate at Lloyd’s.
Professor Ian Bryden
Vice Principal (Research) in UHI
Ian Bryden is Vice Principal (Research) in the University of the Highlands and Islands. As Vice Principal, he has overall responsibility for research across the UHI partnership, whilst maintaining his own specialisms associated with engineering, energy and marine systems.

Barry Carruthers is the Strategic Innovation Manager at ScottishPower Renewables. His remit covers innovative activities in Marine Energy, onshore and offshore wind, and emerging technologies such as energy storage.
Chartered Mechanical Engineer
Peter Fraenkel is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and he is a Visiting Professor at the University of Edinburgh. He recently formed a company called Fraenkel-Wright Ltd with Martin Wright which has a capability in renewable energy consultancy with an emphasis on marine applications.
Andrew Mill is Chairman of the European Marine Energy Centre, where he was previously Managing Director. A graduate and Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and a Fellow of the Energy Institute, Andrew is also a visiting Professor at the University of Strathclyde and is on the Board of the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult.
Alan Mortimer joined SgurrEnergy in 2013 as Director of Innovation where his role involves extending the company’s renewable energy activities in onshore wind, offshore wind, solar, wave, tidal, heat and transport with greater involvement in technology development and innovation.

Jason Schofield is Managing Director of Green Marine. The business provides a range of marine support services including the installation, removal and maintenance of a wide range of tidal and wave energy devices and gravity bases.

Keith Anderson is the Subsea Manager – Engineering for the Wood Group, based in Aberdeen. Wood Group helps to provide energy, products and services that improve the quality of lives around the world.
