Get Ready for Work is a national training programme that has been developed to help you move into a job, further training or college. It helps you focus on what you want to do, learn new skills and give you the confidence to move into work either directly or via training or further education. This programme will help identify your individual needs and give you the skills and confidence to achieve your goals.
You will be involved in drawing up your own individual training plan, one that is tailored to your individual circumstances.
You may want help with interview techniques, or advice on how to complete an application form or preparing a CV. Or you may require some support with your writing, maths or IT skills or you may simply want to build up your self confidence.
Get Ready for Work will give you the chance to try different kinds of work through work tasters and placements to help you decide the best type of job or career for you.
You can also pick up practical skills like how to manage your money and how to keep fit and healthy.
Some training providers will offer you the opportunity to achieve a qualification in your chosen career as well as help you gain a full time job.
Am I eligible for Get Ready for Work? Are you a young person aged between 16 and 19, not at school, college, employed or in training? Then Get Ready for Work could be suitable for you.
How do I get started? Call 0845 8 502 502 to be put in touch with a local Careers Adviser who will talk to you about what you want to do and tell you about Get Ready for Work and what it can offer you.
What happens next? Once you've started your Get Ready for Work programme, you'll have a Personal Adviser supporting and encouraging you each step of the way. You and your Personal Adviser will regularly review what you've been doing and discuss the progress you've made.
Your individual training plan can be adjusted to take account of what's been happening. The important thing to remember is that this programme is about you and the help you'll need to really begin to make your way in the world.
