The Gaelic plan for Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has been prepared in response to the formal notice of requirement to prepare a Gaelic language plan - and with regard to the requirements as set out in Section 3 of the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005 – including representations made to the public authority – section 3(5)(a). The formal notice requires HIE to submit a Gaelic language plan to Bòrd na Gàidhlig by 1 October 2007.
As part of the preparation of this plan, it is important that HIE gathers opinion on the importance of Gaelic to the HIE region and on whether this plan is one which can help realise a secure and sustainable future for the language in the Highlands and Islands and across Scotland. It is also important that this plan meets the organisation’s obligations under the terms of the Gaelic Act, with regard to the National Plan for Gaelic, 2007-2012, and the guidance on the development of Gaelic language plans.
We would very much appreciate your comments on the draft Gaelic plan for Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and have provided the following online form as a means of guiding responses on what we feel are the key issues pertaining to the plan. It is not absolutely necessary to use this form, but it would be useful for our purposes if you were to do so.
It is important to note that the current HIE Gaelic plan remains a draft document for dialogue and consultation. The action points outlined in the plan are likewise provided for further comment and discussion and do not necessarily reflect our final formal commitments under the statutory Gaelic plan for Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
