EDP competition terms and conditions

Terms and Conditions:

  • All eligible entries will be judged by a panel.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an interview lasting up to an hour, taking place in Inverness on Wednesday 11th or Thursday 12th November 2009 (if applicants are unable to attend in person, virtual interviews will be arranged).
  • The six best entries will be awarded a sponsored place on the MIT Entrepreneurship Development Programme from 24th – 29th January 2010.
  • The judge's decision is final, no correspondence will be entered into.
  • Winners will be notified via email by Friday 13th November.
  • On return from the visit to MIT, the winners must produce a short report on the trip, describing the benefits of the visit, how they will apply the learning to their business and submitted to HIE by Friday 26th February 2010
  • The winners will be required to share their experience with other aspiring Highland entrepreneurs when requested to by HIE during the course of the following year.The inability to contact a potential winner may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner.
  • Winners will be required to have a current, valid, machine readable passport and their own travel insurance.
  • By submitting an entry and entering this competition you hereby grant the sponsors (Highlands and Islands Enterprise) the right to use, publish and distribute your entry and any promotional photographs taken in connection with the promotion of HIE’s partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. 
  • None of the entry materials submitted by applicants will be treated as confidential, please do not submit proprietary information.

Prize details:

  • The financial value of the prize is approximately £7,500.
  • The prize includes the course fee, return travel to Boston and accommodation during the 5 day course.
  • In order to comply with EU State Aid rules, participating businesses will be expected to contribute 30% of the total cost of attending the course (course fee, plus flight and accommodation cost) which is expected to be approximately £2,250 per participant.
  • Added value from attending on an HIE sponsored place comes from additional networking and meetings arranged by HIE with the wider business network in Boston including MIT’s Industrial Liaison Programme, Scottish Development International, GlobalScot and the EDP alumni cohort in the H&I.
  • Cost of flights from Aberdeen to Boston, plus overnight accommodation will be provided by HIE. Any other costs incurred during the trip will be at the individual’s own expense. Withdrawal from the trip following notification and acceptance of prize will leave the winner eligible for any booked travel and accommodation costs.
