Since 2003, the provision of sailings to Islay have been significantly enhanced for most of the summer timetable.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise commissioned an evaluation of the economic impacts of the increased summer sailing frequency on ferry services to Islay. The research was undertaken between September and December 2005.

 The evaluation included:

  • Economic impacts from these increased volumes and from any other efficiency gains to businesses from the increased frequency;
  • Any displacement of trips from the Glasgow-Islay air service.
