What is broadband speed?
|
The speed of a broadband connection refers to how much information per second can be transferred between the internet and the computer. Most broadband access deals are now rated at up to 8Mb per second – that’s around 160 times faster than a 56k dial up modem. The speed quoted is always the download speed, how much information can be received. Sending information from your computer to the internet is called uploading, and this speed is normally substantially slower but still lightning fast compared to dial up. Broadband that utilises your landline is therefore usually referred to as asynchronous, having unequal download and upload speeds.
