Detailed rules applicable to the HIE research and development grant scheme for small and medium-sized enterprises:

State aid No N 385/2001 – United Kingdom. (version December 2007)

HIE is authorised to offer grants towards research and development investments by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) - using powers granted under the European Union 'Community Framework on State Aid for Research, Development and Innovation' (Official Journal C 323 of December 30th 2006).

HIE is also authorised to offer grants towards research and development investments by large enterprises (according to the EU definition. Basically this means firms with over 250 employees).

These powers are part of the Scottish R and D scheme State Aid No N 510/2007 – United Kingdom.
