Cultural planning event in the Outer Hebrides

Cultural planning event in the Outer Hebrides
10 October 2008

Almost 100 delegates will gather in South Uist at the end of October for a two-day event to discuss access to culture and cultural planning in the Outer Hebrides.

The Outer Hebrides Community Cultural Network event will be held in Southend Hall on the Friday 31st October and Saturday 1st November.

In addition, a concert and ceilidh featuring local musicians and hosted by Ceòlas will be held at St Peter’s Hall on the Friday evening.

The events provide a networking opportunity and in particular discussions will focus on widening access to culture and cultural planning as part of the community planning process.

The delegates are from Outer Hebrides cultural organisations, community planning partners and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar. Cultural representatives from Argyll & Bute, Orkney, Shetland and Skye will also be attending.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Chair of Sustainable Development, Cllr Archie Campbell said: “The Outer Hebrides Community Cultural Network event has now evolved into an annual occurrence, providing an opportunity for many of the community cultural organisations to meet together and discuss common issues. As the event rotates around the islands each year there is the opportunity to be either a host or a visitor and it is always good to travel to an area of the islands that such organisations would otherwise not have the opportunity to visit and see things in a different perspective. The event theme of partnership working is very relevant currently both nationally and locally, and I look forward to listening and participating in such discussions. I also look forward to the Ceòlas concert, which is sure to be a great celebration of our island musical heritage.”
