Scottish tourism is in line for a significant boost next year when Homecoming Scotland 2009 comes to fruition. Meantime, tourism operators are being urged to gear up for this marketing effort.
As ancestry is one of the main themes, businesses throughout the Highlands and Islands should seriously consider maximising the forthcoming benefits by joining the Ancestral Welcome scheme.
Tourist Board Training offers an online Ancestral Tourism course for tourism businesses interested in meeting the specific needs of ancestral tourists. Being online, the course can be started anytime and worked through at your own pace. The type of business that the course is designed for are:
· accommodation providers
· libraries
· museums
· tourist information centres
· and visitor centres.
The cost for the course is £25.00 + VAT per person and it takes 10 – 14 hours to complete.
Completion of the course questionnaire provides free access to the Ancestral Welcome scheme and a listing on the Ancestral Scotland website.
