The Scottish Land Fund was established to support community groups buy and develop land and/or buildings for the benefit of their local area. Since 2012 the Fund has awarded over £9million to 52 community groups delivering a range of projects that will provide jobs, volunteering and training opportunities, social benefits and environmental improvements. HIE delivers this fund in partnership with the BIG Lottery Fund.

The third round of The Scottish Land Fund was announced on March 16th 2016 by the Scottish Government, HIE and the BIG Lottery Fund, and opened on April 1st 2016.
The new programme, which will run from 2016 until 2020, will see the Scottish Government commit £10 million to the fund in order to help communities across Scotland become more resilient and sustainable through land ownership.
New for this third round of The Scottish Land Fund, communities in urban areas will be able to apply for funding for the very first time, a move that will align the fund with the requirements of Community Empowerment Act, which extends the Community Right to Buy provisions across the whole of Scotland.
