Preparing for work - In work training - Career progression

People are one of the area’s most important resources and a skilled, loyal and flexible workforce which can respond to change is a key asset.

Our strategic priorities for developing skills are:

  • improved demand for high quality in-work training
  • best start for all our young people
  • narrowing the gap in unemployment
  • improved operation of the labour market

We constantly review the training requirements of employers within Caithness and Sutherland to ensure that training initiatives are developed to counteract shortages of skills and to help with future expansion areas. Tailored training packages can be developed with individual companies.

HIE Caithness and Sutherland is responsible for the delivery of national training programmes for unemployed adults and young people in its area. In addition to statutory programmes and initiatives, HIE Caithness and Sutherland also operates a wide range of discretionary initiatives within Caithness and Sutherland which aim to enhance the skills, qualifications and flexibility of the local work force and those wishing to return to work after a period of unemployment.

Listed below are links to a range of programmes and initiatives we have to meet these objectives.  If you require any further information please contact our Developing Skills staff.
