Creating community assets

Community assets include land, the environment and infrastructure owned, managed or impacted on by the community. By encouraging community-based options for the use of these assets, we can increase the capacity of communities to undertake their own local development.

Community assistance enables local groups to improve infrastructure and services. In Caithness & Sutherland we have assisted with the establishment and enhancement of key community facilities such as village halls, leisure centres, community learning centres.

We have also helped the establishment of a network of community transport groups delivering tailored transport solutions to geographically and socially disadvantaged people in some of our most fragile communities.

Our priority areas are Wick and North West Sutherland, and we aim to direct at least 40% of our investment towards activity in these areas.
