Company information

One of nine Local Enterprise Companies (LECs) which form the Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) network, HIE Caithness and Sutherland (formerly known as Caithness and Sutherland Enterprise (CASE)) was established in April 1991, taking over the former responsibilities of the Highlands and Islands Development Board and the Training Agency in the counties of Caithness and Sutherland.

HIE Caithness and Sutherland has substantial powers and resources to enable social and economic development. These powers include finance for business; provision of factories and offices; training programmes; assistance for community and cultural projects; and measures for environmental renewal.

Locally-based and locally-led, HIE Caithness and Sutherland is dedicated to providing frontline delivery of assistance and advice to businesses and communities by providing the wide range of services broadly outlined in the following pages. These services do not remain static and may change from time to time in order to fully meet the needs of our customers. More detailed information on individual schemes/services is available from HIE Caithness and Sutherland on request.

In order to achieve this aim, HIE Caithness and Sutherland pursues four strategic objectives:

  • Growing Businesses
  • Developing Skills
  • Strengthening Communities
  • Making Global Connections

These four strategic objectives reinforce one another and are pursued in complementary ways and CASE focuses its activity on a number of key development priorities within each objective.

The HIE Caithness and Sutherland mission statement is:

In partnership with the private sector and other agencies, to help maximise the potential of individuals, businesses and communities in Caithness and Sutherland.
