The Leading Edge

Programme – one day per month for four months

Programme leader:

Donald McNaughton is a native of Brora, who works with blue chip, international clients that include the UK’s largest banks, Baxters of Speyside, the SFA and the GB Alpine Ski Team, coaching first class performance in order to achieve amazing results.

After many years working all over the UK and abroad, Donald is keen to work with local businesses, to enable them to make the most of that core ingredient – leadership – which can guarantee success. His unique combination of down-to-earth approach, business acumen, leadership and sport psychology skills aims to maximise the potential of individuals.

Aims:

This programme comprises four one-day workshops aimed at developing the essential attitudes and behaviour to be a successful business leader and entrepreneur. Attendance at all four workshops is essential. As well as the workshops, the programme will also incorporate individual coaching sessions with Donald.

Content:

Personal leadership & management – exploring values & vision, passions, ideas, strengths, areas for development
Clients – skills & attitudes for understanding customers’ motivations, meeting customers’ needs
Team – developing and leading a high performance team
Collaborative working – skills for developing partnerships with other leaders and beyond

Bid response and writing skills provides the practical skills required to see and win these contracts.Financial managment for non-financial managers This course is designed to help managers who do not normally deal with Financial Management to appreciate and understand the role of financial management within organisations.Employing people With the introduction of new legislation on 1st October 2004 this is a ‘must’ for all employers, particularly small businesses who do not have procedures covering dismissal, discipline and grievance. This session will take you though disciplinary rules and procedures covering issues such as misconduct and capability as well as grievances from employees.Introduction to equality This training will advise small employers how to comply with the legal framework which protects employees & workers from discrimination in the workplace. It will focus on practical steps you can take to devise and implement an equal opportunities policy in your workplace.Strategic Marketing Strategic Marketing aims to equip senior managers with an up-to-date set of the major tools required to formulate robust strategic marketing plans to ensure the continuing competitive success of their organisation. Attendance at all four workshops is essential.The Leading Edge The Leading Edge is a high-level management training programme.Confidence and communications To examine ways of improving the effectiveness of personal contacts and how to ensure communication is effective.Presentation skills This course is designed to help staff and managers develop a professional approach to presentation techniques, which builds confidence and projects a professional image. The course can be either a one or two day workshop depending on the needs of the client.Dealing with conflict Human beings are all different and do not agree on all matters. This can be healthy and invigorating within both businesses and life generally. However, when views become entrenched and the arguments become adversarial it is likely the seeds of conflict will be sown.Managing projects successfully This programme aims to provide a forum for Project Managers and Senior Managers to gain exposure to Best Practices in Project Management in its broadest sense.Employee appraisal To introduce course members to the various benefits and problems associated with appraisals and to establish the purpose and content of an appraisal interview.Managing change The need for change is a fundamental reality for businesses and organisations in the 21st century. However, humans are often ill-prepared for the personal consequences involved. And the modern manager needs to be able to guide and support staff through times of change.Team-based supervisory skills This two day practical workshop will help increase and develop the vital skills needed by today’s team supervisors. Through a combination of discussions, personal and group exercises and role play, the delegates will come to better understand their roles and responsibilities as communicators and how to act for improved management performance.Managing time Once on top of the organisation of "must do jobs", your mind will be confidently free from the clutter and "noise" of everyday pressures. You can concentrate on each and every job, bringing to the quality of your output, the full power of your brain. Furthermore, an uncluttered "stress-free" mind will give you a competitive advantage in creative thought processes.
