Leadership

Leadership for growth

The Leadership for Growth programme offers high level leadership training for senior directors and business owners.

The programme has evolved over eight years and has been delivered to more than 100 business leaders throughout the Highlands and Islands.

What are the business benefits?

This programme helps participants to reflect, plan, resolve, discuss, learn, share and prepare development activity with other like-minded business leaders in a non-competitive, friendly and confidential situation.

It provides face-to-face, online and one-to-one development support and is flexible to meet the needs of individual participants.

A typical programme includes a two-day strategy workshop looking at:

  • innovative thinking
  • human resources
  • exporting
  • sales and marketing
  • business finance
  • personal development
  • corporate governance
  • technology
  • How do we deliver this service?

The programme is run for HIE by the Institute of Directors (IOD) in association with the Glasgow School of Art and the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI).

Participants can gain academic credits towards a degree qualification if they wish.

The programme consists of 13 one- and two-day topic workshops held over a 12-15 month period at times scheduled to suit participants. Each course has a maximum of 14 participants.

In addition to the workshops, participants get a series of one-to-one face-to-face and online coaching sessions as well as online learning.

Who is it for?

The Leadership for Growth programme is aimed at senior staff in HIE account managed businesses or social enterprises. Staff are typically operating as directors, aspiring directors, senior managers and owners of medium, small and micro businesses, including social enterprises.

HIE account managers will refer potential participants to the IOD and discussion will take place on which level is best depending on each participant's situation.

HIE operates account management to build close relationships with hundreds of businesses and social enterprises across the Highlands and Islands. Account managed clients have the ambition and potential to trade outwith the region and achieve high growth, or to deliver significant benefits within a fragile area.

How much does it cost?

The cost of this programme will vary depending on the size and location of a business.
