Intertek Surveying Services is one of the world’s leading providers of quality and safety solutions. From its base in Alness, the company provides specialist 3D data capture and measurement services for on and offshore projects across the globe. Keen to grow its customer base in international markets and increase Intertek’s export activity, operations manager Mark Macleod approached Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) for advice.

Being part of a worldwide company, the team at Intertek already had some basic knowledge about exporting and conducting business internationally. However, Mark was keen to explore opportunities in Norway.

Mark registered for the Planning for Export Success training programme, an in-depth intermediate level training course. The course helped to build upon Mark’s existing knowledge in the more advanced aspects of exporting. Free to attend, the programme exists to provide an understanding of the capabilities and resources needed to export successfully. It teaches how to sustain international success and provides guidance on how to develop a business model, a value proposition and a strategy for export markets which includes pricing plans and payment methods.

Mark said: “I’m really glad we signed up to the export course. We’ve made more international contacts than I ever could have hoped to reach out to on my own.

The major benefit really has been the fact that our general knowledge surrounding all aspects of international business has been given a great boost and we have developed export plans to ensure our company continues to grow. I gained the confidence I needed to put together an action plan to focus our company’s activities on international growth.
