The Virtual Learning Academy (VLA) is a resource that looks to provide different types of learning and different methods of study, identifying the barriers to learning and providing solutions to overcome them. Customers can either study for their own benefit, towards a qualification, in a group or online, and can choose from short courses to year-long programmes.
Through the Innovate your Business programme, HIE assisted VLA with their grant application and with the procurement of professional management qualifications and CMI qualifications. We also helped to provide access to the highest level learning content online, plus a range of other resources. The grant they received will serve to support content development.
Virtual Learning Academy has been given opportunities for growth we would never have received without HIE.

"I wanted to make learning more accessible across the Highlands and Islands, however I found difficulty gaining financial support as on the surface, people perceived the idea as simply another online training company.
Thankfully HIE recognised the potential in developing and investing in such an idea. With their financial support, we developed an extremely high quality online learning environment, something that is integral to the Virtual Learning Academy’s success as a business.
HIE also offered advice and direction through meetings with a business advisor. This was a great opportunity to get advice on some of the strengths and weaknesses of the project. I also received information on protecting my intellectual property. Virtual Learning Academy has been given opportunities for growth we would never have received without HIE."
