Innovation vouchers

The Innovation Voucher scheme helps businesses access knowledge from higher education institutions to develop new products and processes through R&D projects. Grants of between £500 and £5000 are available to any businesses in the Highlands and Islands who have an innovative project with the potential to help grow their business. 

What are the business benefits? 

  • Connection to academic expertise
  • New opportunities in product and process innovation through academic research and development
  • Knowledge exchange and business support

Who is it for?

Existing businesses with innovative new project ideas that require input from academia and individuals with innovative ideas for new products or services.

How much does it cost?

There is no financial cost to the business.

Each project can claim eligible costs including:

  • Academic staff time
  • Access to equipment and consumables to undertake the activities to be delivered during the project.

Note, funding may not be used to cover the costs of the following:

  • Standard training courses
  • Software purchases
  • Aid that would promote/ subsidise the cost of exports
  • Internships for students of knowledge institutions
  • Design and production of advertising materials including websites and mobile applications
  • Sales and marketing activities

How is this service delivered?

The Innovation Voucher scheme is being administered by Interface which offers a free matchmaking service, connecting companies with a specific business challenge to the relevant academic expertise.
