In 2011, backed by the Prince's Trust, Magnus Houston set up Coast & Glen in Inverness, a wholesale business that supplied local restaurants and hotels with fish and seafood landed by local fishermen.
While that was successful, it soon became apparent that there was also demand from individual consumers for high-quality produce, caught locally and sustainably, and governed by the season, rather than the fish which is sold through the supertrawler-supermarket route, which may be cheaper...but tastes cheaper.
And so Fishbox was born, offering a convenient, nutritious and fun way to eat more fish and seafood.
Not only was the programme easy, it was beneficial to be able to set a clear goal and work out a strategy.
Working with his HIE account manager, Magnus used the Innovate your Business support programme to help set a strategy and a clear goal around how to develop his operation and speed up processing.
By developing software to support a new pick-pack process, Coast & Glen reduced a labour intensive process to free up more time to meet the growing customer demand.
