Scotedge - Encouraging Dynamic Growth Entrepreneurs

What is Scotedge?

Scotedge is a Dragon's Den style pitching competition for ambitious entrepreneurs who wish to grow their business.

Round 9 of the competition is open to limited companies, social enterprises and charities in Scotland who have been trading for up to 5 years who wish to apply for up to £100,00 (max.£50,000 grant, max. £50,000 loan) to accelerate growth of their business. Round 9 will be open to the following categories:

  • Scottish EDGE – companies can apply for and win awards up to a maximum of £100,000.  All Scottish EDGE awards are offered on a 50:50 grant/loan split.  Businesses cannot apply for a Scottish EDGE grant only.
  • Higgs EDGE – companies who meet the Higgs EDGE criteria, can win one of two awards available in this category – £150,000 or £100,000.  These awards are offered on a 50:50 grant/loan split.
  • Young EDGE – companies who meet Young EDGE criteria, can win awards up to £10,000.  These awards are in the form of a grant.
  • Wild Card EDGE – companies who meet Wild Card EDGE criteria, can win awards up to £10,000.  These awards are in the form of a grant.

 

Round 9 Timetable: 

  • Round 9 applications open - 3 August 2016
  • Scottish EDGE information event (HIE, An Lòchran, Inverness Campus, Inverness IV2 5NA and via Livestream - 10.30am-12.00pm, Tuesday 09 August 2016 (registration details available w/c 25 July 2016)
  • Round 9 Application Deadline - 2.00pm 7 September 2016
  • First stage assessments undertaken - 20 September 2016
  • Wildcard EDGE final - 27 October 2016
  • Round 9 semi-final days - 1, 2 and 3 November 2016
  • Young EDGE final - 10 November 2016
  • Higgs EDGE final – 16 November 2016
  • Scottish EDGE final - 15 December 2016

Scotedge Round 8 Winners

  • Chris Hyde from OTAQ, who produce an acoustic ‘seal fence’ won £100,000
  • Andrew Slorance from Phoenix Instinct, who produce travel products for wheelchair users, won £50,000
  • Alasdair Mort from MIME, who are developing software for medical emergencies, won £10,000

 

All three received the support HIE offers to Highlands and Islands companies who apply for EDGE funding.
