Businesses from the Highlands and Islands looking to grow and become more competitive are set to benefit from a new initiative for entrepreneurs.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has teamed up with membership body, Entrepreneurial Scotland (ES), to enable more enterprising individuals in the region to access that body’s range of activities and services.
ES’s vision is for Scotland to become the most entrepreneurial society in the world. It aims to make this possible through the provision of world class, globally minded programmes that spark the next generation of entrepreneurial talent.
Extending its presence and reach into the Highlands and Islands will enable businesses in the region to access the ES network and full range of support and activities. These include networking events, talent matching and management and support advice.
HIE and ES are now planning a programme of events, tailored to the needs and trends of the region. The events will feature leading entrepreneurs from a range of industry sectors who will share best practice, future trends and lessons learned from starting, growing and scaling a business. These will encourage collaboration amongst entrepreneurs within the region and from other parts of the country.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Entrepreneurial Scotland are currently planning a series of events for entrepreneurs. More details will be published shortly.

A recent CEO survey highlighted that 90% of UK top bosses are predicting growth this year.
They are looking to expand and develop their workforces but they’re worried about getting the skills they’ll need to drive future growth.
The Saltire Fellowship Programme is Scotland’s answer to this challenge. Designed for Scotland’s most talented and ambitious individuals, the Saltire Fellowship provides an exceptional learning experience through which they can develop their leadership skills and a global mindset to help accelerate the growth of businesses and gain competitive advantage.
While on the programme, delivered in both Boston and Scotland, participants work on live business challenges allowing businesses to benefit from the support of a cohort of our most talented and entrepreneurially-minded business leaders.
The programme provides participants with the critical skills and insights they will need to realise their full potential through a combination of theoretical and practical learning. By investing in the right talents, companies will be able to unlock their team’s potential and in turn create a workforce of skilled and growth-minded individuals.
What makes the Saltire Fellowship unique is the opportunity for Fellows to spend time with our partners at Babson College in Boston Massachusetts, (a leader in entrepreneurship education) and at the Strathclyde Business School, named UK Business University of the Year in 2016. The programme is led by successful entrepreneurs – people who understand the needs of businesses and the challenges of operating in highly competitive environments.
Entrepreneurial Scotland works in partnership with organisations to meet their needs and ensure that the Fellowship generates the expected ROI. By developing a custom case, we will provide an opportunity for the cohort and the Babson Faculty to explore and debate approaches for dealing with the challenges that Scottish organisations are facing.
