Code of conduct for HIE board members

The Scottish public has a high expectation of those who serve on the boards of public bodies and the way in which they should conduct themselves in undertaking their duties for the public body. HIE expects the conduct of HIE board members and directors to be above reproach.

The Ethical Standards in Public Life etc. (Scotland) Act 2000 provides for new codes of conduct for local authority councillors and members of relevant public bodies; imposes on councils and relevant public bodies a duty to help their members to comply with the relevant code; and establishes a Standards Commission for Scotland to oversee the new framework and deal with alleged breaches of the codes.

It is the responsibility of HIE board members and directors to make sure that they are familiar with, and that their actions comply with, the provisions of this code of conduct.

The code is available here to download  - along with a copy of board members' registered interests.

If you have cause to complain about the conduct of a HIE board member, you have the right to refer to the Standards Commission for Scotland. See link right.
