Our people

We have opportunities right now for talented, ambitious people in our region.

Our workforce is innovative and flexible; we've a long history in advanced engineering, design and manufacturing. And today, we're as likely to be engineering software, and delivering complex projects - like maintaining the next generation of aircraft and building an internationally-recognised space industry.

Right across our region, our communities put good education, a strong labour market and skills, and career opportunities at the top of our priority list. Access to talent is vital to developing our region and attracting new businesses.

We have a strong labour market with higher employment, lower unemployment and more employees in high or medium skilled occupations than Scotland as a whole.

If you're looking for the perfect career life balance, find out more about the fantastic opportunities we have in the region. And if you're an employer, we can work with you to ensure you have the skilled staff you need for your business.

Our education provision

The quality of Scotland's workforce is internationally recognised. With its renowned education system and high ratio of graduates per capita, Scotland surpasses most countries of similar size in Europe.

The Highlands and Islands is served by a first rate education system which provides large numbers of high achievers through primary, secondary, further and higher education.

We currently have seven universities with a base in the Highlands and Islands, these are:

University of the Highlands and Islands

The region is home to Scotland’s newest university – the University of the Highlands and Islands. A campus based university, it offers a range of courses at 13 locations across the region. It also provides local and online access to over 40,000 students.

Inverness College UHI opened its doors to students at Inverness Campus in August 2015. The new facility which represents a £50 million investment occupying 18,500 sq.m, enables Inverness College to realise its ambitious vision of creating an iconic, modern, tertiary education environment.
