To realise their full potential, the people of Argyll and the Islands must be enabled to acquire new skills and expanded knowledge and capabilities.  Developing these assets is the key to long-term employability for individuals and to competitiveness in business.

We will ensure that the delivery of training responds to the demands of business and that the employability of our most disadvantaged people improves.  We aim to make skills enhancement and learning more accessible for both employers and individuals.  We continue to work closely with Argyll College who have filled a major gap in the area's training and learning infrastructure, and opened the opportunity for people in even the most remote locations to obtain qualifications without leaving home.

We are actively targeting the Developing Skills goals by:

  • Achieving a better fit between current and emerging labour market needs.
  • Ensuring the best start for all your young people.
  • Narrowing the gap in unemployment.
  • Creating a demand for high quality in-work training.
  • Continued development of the Modern Aprenticeship programme.
  • Improving business competitiveness through our sectoral skills strategy.
  • Continuing to add value to the developmnet and delivery of New Deal.
  • Development of the facilities at Dunstaffnage for increased high-level research education and development.
