Initiative at the Edge

This is a partnership programme involving communities in specific rural areas and as the name suggests they tend to be in some of our most remote locations. These community groups work, with the assistance of a designated Local Development Officer, alongside a number of different agencies and local authorities.

The operating principle of IatE gives the community groups the power to identify their needs, required actions and develop projects accordingly. The Partners in IatE are able to support the communities in the realisation of their projects.

The two areas which have been designated for the programme in the Argyll and Bute area are the islands of Jura and Coll and ourselves along with Argyll and Bute Council, Scottish Natural Hertiage, the Crofters Commission, Communities Scotland and the Scottish Executive will form a collaborative parnership with these two communites. The aim of this partnership will initially be to assist the community in an advisory role but it is up to the community groups to set there own agendas and priorities. Once these aspirations have been identified and a plan to deliver the projects has been mapped out the partnership role will switch to one of  support with the community still firmly in the driving seat.

The Initiative at the Edge (Iomairt aig an Oir) web site contains further information on the programme and on the other 6 designated areas. See link in the right hand panel.
