Business Plan Objectives - Making Global Connections

Reducing the economic peripherality of Argyll and the Islands is essential to long-term progress.  For many years, efforts to achieve this centred on countering the effects of physical remoteness through investment in transport infrastructure.  While this remains vital to the area's development, distance-shrinking can now be tackled through improved electronic communications and building on the gains brought by digital telecommunications in the last decade will be a priority for AIE.  We will seek to build new links between Argyll and the Islands and the rest of the world, raising the attractiveness of the area as one to visit, invest and work in.

Our priorities for making global connections will be:

  • Improving digital connectivity, bringing broadband capacity to the area.
  • Increased involvements in global markets through raising levels of market intelligence, analysis, marketing and sales.
  • The promotion of Argyll and the Islands as a globally attractive location based on inproved business infrastructure, including property and transport links.
  • Attracting more people to live and work in the area by promoting sustainable employment opportunities, an improved physical environment and community services and facilities.
