This paper was given at the 'Transforming Scotland's Transport' conference in Edinburgh on 13 May 2005. It describes recent trends in air passenger transport for both Scotland and the Highlands and Islands, and outlines the economic and social benefits provided by air services to the region. The presentation includes case study material relating to new business and no-frills flights at Inverness and presents the case for further improvements to our regional, cross-border and international air links.
