Directors and senior management

HIE's leadership team is chaired by Alex Paterson, Chief Executive, and includes four directors. A personal profile of each director, including their individual register of interests, is available below.

The team meet most weeks to discuss and decide on policy matters, strategic issues and key projects. It reviews organisational performance against priorities and budgets, as well as all papers going to HIE Board meetings.

John Watt

Strengthening Communities Director

John Watt has responsibility for community asset development including land, community energy, social enterprise, community account management, the third sector, culture and heritage, including Gaelic, and he has an overview of HIE's work in the Highlands and Islands fragile areas.

Carroll Buxton

Carroll Buxton

Regional Development Director

Carroll Buxton is HIE's Regional Development Director and has responsibility for managing a diverse directorate, leading on a range of issues including the Inverness Campus, broadband, property, UHI, policy, research and economics, communications and strategy. She also manages HIE's area offices in Moray and Shetland.

Charlotte Wright

Charlotte Wright

Sector and Business Development Director

Charlotte Wright is responsible for four Area Teams: Inner Moray Firth; Caithness and Sutherland; and Orkney. She also has responsibility for the Inverness Campus team and the Operations Support team. and is Senior Responsible Officer for the ongoing development of the account management model in HIE.
