Detailed rules applicable to the HIE Financial Support to Businesses covered by the EU State Aid General Block Exemption Regulation: Commission Regulation (EC) No 800/2008
HIE is authorised to offer financial assistance to commercial undertakings under various State Aid powers from the European Commission. The following categories of State Aid may be granted by Highlands and Islands Enterprise under the authority of the General Block Exemption Regulation:
- Regional investment and employment aid (for all sizes of firms in the Highlands and Islands Assisted Area).
- SME investment aid employment aid (for small and medium sized firms in the non-assisted area).
- Aid for newly created small enterprises.
- Aid for small enterprises newly created by female entrepreneurs.
- Investment aid enabling undertakings to go beyond Community standards for environmental protection, including transport vehicles which have the same effect.
- Aid for the early adaptation to future Community standards for SMEs.
- Environmental investment aid for energy saving measures.
- Environmental investment aid for high-efficiency cogeneration.
- Environmental investment aid for the promotion of energy from renewable energy sources.
- Aid for environmental studies.
- Aid to SMEs for consultancy and for the first-time participation in trade fairs.
- Training aid.
