Customer service

We aim to provide the best possible service to individuals, businesses, organisations and communities with whom we work, and to demonstrate maximum transparency in all of our operations.

Customer comments encouraged

We encourage customers to tell us what they think about the service they receive from us. We are committed to dealing with complaints fairly and quickly. Our service charter sets out the standard you can expect from HIE. Copies of our service charter are available in all HIE offices.

Key resources

HIE's continually seeks to improve staff skills to enhance the overall performance of the organisation. At the heart of this process is the business development programme Investors in People, which encourages companies and organisations to develop individual skills in line with overall business objectives.

Measuring progress

Evaluation is an integral part of our activities. A formal year-end evaluation of each business unit's activities looks at achievement against targets and at qualitative performance against a set of management standards. We subject programmes and projects to independent external evaluation, under the guidance of an internal steering group.

Unacceptable Actions Policy

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is committed to ensuring that our services meet the needs of our customers and are delivered to a high standard. We aim to be open and accessible and believe that all customers have the right to be heard, understood and respected. We also believe that HIE staff have the same rights.

Occasionally, the behaviour or actions of individuals using HIE's services makes it difficult to continue working with them. In a small number of cases, the actions become unacceptable because they involve abuse of our staff or resources. When this happens, action has to be taken to protect HIE staff. To deal with such situations, HIE has an unacceptable actions policy in place. Copies of this policy can be downloaded on the right-hand side and are available on request from HIE offices.
