Scotland's businesses are encouraged to get the green vibe

20 April 2011

Scottish businesses are being encouraged to seek recognition for their sustainable practices through a leading environmental awards scheme.

The 2011 Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland Awards (VIBES) is now in its twelfth year and aims to recognise businesses of all sizes and sectors employing environmental best practice in their daily activity to cut down on resource use, increase sustainability, improve reputation and benefit their company's bottom-line.

Over the past decade, the free-to-enter awards have produced winners from across Scotland, drawn from a range of sectors including: manufacturing; food and drink; transport; environmental services; oil and gas and leisure.

Previous winners have included household names such as Bausch & Lomband Robert Wiseman Dairies.

This year's awards will launch through a series of free events across the country in May. Businesses will be able to find out more information about how the awards work and meet some of the VIBES steering group who will be on hand to answer any questions.

"The VIBES Awards aim to recognise Scottish businesses which have shown commitment, action and achievement in seeking to reduce their impact on the environment", explains Fiona Whyte, who works for SEPA and has been on the VIBES steering group and judging panel for the past three years.

"The launch events taking place next month will be a great chance to engage with local businesses. We'll also be holding a 'VIBES surgery' where we can offer impartial advice on how businesses can develop ideas on improving sustainable practices in their business."

Special regional events will be held at Clark Contracts in Paisley and The Lovat Loch Ness in Fort Augustus on 10 May before concluding with events at Vegware in Edinburgh and TWMA in Aberdeen on 12 May. To book your place please email
