International online trading advice offered to Highlands and Islands businesses

04 September 2013

Businesses in the Highlands and Islands looking to start selling online or increase international sales through their websites are being invited to free workshops by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).

The International e-Commerce workshops form part of the Smart Exporter programme and aim to help companies do more international business over the web.

Four half-day workshops are to be held, focusing on two complementary topics – ‘Developing your Website to boost International Business’ and ‘International e-Commerce Trading’.

Taking place in Inverness and Forres in September, the workshops will be delivered by Julian Lawson Hill, a consultant with 20 years’ experience of helping Scottish companies to export.

Julian has developed and delivered international trade training on behalf of HIE and Scottish Development International, inspiring them to grow their business in international markets.

Norma Macdonald, Senior Development Manager for International Business from HIE, said: “These workshops are developed to help businesses who are looking to increase international sales through their websites. They may already be selling online or just be looking at options. Each workshop will focus on a different aspect of e-commerce, from developing an effective website, improving the profile of your business and addressing language concerns, to developing a pricing strategy, understanding payment methods and considering legal requirements.

“We strongly encourage anyone with an interest in boosting sales by selling internationally online to take advantage of this opportunity for support and come along to the Smart Exporter workshops.”

Smart Exporter in the Highlands and Islands, which is part-funded by the European Social Fund, provides companies with the knowledge and skills required to target international markets and help them develop their export capabilities.

Smart Exporter is delivered by Highlands and Islands Enterprise in partnership with Scottish Development International and the Scottish Chambers of Commerce.
