HIE supports Shetland marine engineering company to grow ambitious business

23 January 2013

Marine engineering company DH Marine has recently moved into new spacious premises at the Marina Business Park at Gremista near Lerwick.

This is part of an ambitious growth plan agreed with Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) to increase their turnover to over £2 million and create six new jobs in the next three years.

DH Marine was founded by marine electrician Managing Director David Henry in 2000. The company evolved on three separate small sites and realised that to grow it meant operating on one larger site.

The company provides marine industrial and engineering services and is winning significant work in the energy sector particularly through plant hire and electrical contracting services to highly accredited standards. The aim is to take advantage of the excellent oil and gas and renewable energy opportunities arising in the north of Scotland.

There is still work to be done following the company's move into new premises in December 2012, in order to make the building fully fit for purpose and that will be happening through the course of 2013.

David Henry said: “Steady and sustainable growth has always been a strategy for the company, at the same time ensuring the customer’s requirement are continually met or exceeded especially in an ever competitive market place. The new premises will facilitate the future growth of the company in several areas and is vital in keeping as much employment in Shetland as possible.”

David Priest, Development Manager at HIE, said: ”We have supported the company in this development with a grant of £125,000 as part of their development plan with HIE. DH Marine is a very professional company and important to Shetland, providing quality accredited services to multinational companies and also in their ability to win work as part of the supply chain for energy developments.”
