The Scottish Government has indicated that it is seeking to maintain HIE's operating budget despite the tight overall Spending Review settlement for Scotland.
The figure is set to be maintained at the current level of £61.1 million, which HIE will supplement with other funding to produce its overall budget. In 2011-12, HIE's total budget is £75.3m.
Alex Paterson, Chief Executive of HIE, commented:
"This is an excellent outcome for HIE and the region. The Scottish Government's three year commitment at the present level offers a stable platform for HIE to effectively plan and deliver our ambitious programme for community and economic development for the Highlands and Islands.
"At a time when resources across Scotland are under pressure, we will continue to invest in projects offering the best growth potential for the region while ensuring best value for money, working closely with public, private and third sector partners.
"HIE's unique combination of community and economic development powers equip us to tackle the challenges facing our most fragile areas while also ensuring that the Highlands and Islands is home to some of Scotland's most exciting growth businesses, has international ambitions, and is a prime asset for attracting inward investment to the country."
