The economic and community development organisation will host a stand at Aquaculture UK 2016 on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 May.
The UK’s largest aquaculture exhibition and conference provides direct access to buyers and suppliers from all over the globe representing every aspect of the aquaculture industry.
All major countries will be represented by exhibitors and visitors at the event which is now in its 10th year and is the most important aquaculture event in Britain.
HIE shares the ambitions of this important industry for sustainable growth and recognises that innovation plays an essential part in delivering sustainable growth. There are many opportunities for developing the indigenous aquaculture supply sector both for domestic and overseas markets and HIE can provide support for businesses looking to maximise this growth.
Elaine Jamieson, head of food and drink at HIE said: “This is a great time to be part of the Scottish aquaculture industry. Significant investments are being made in research, development and innovation by producers and across the supply chain. In Scotland’s Year of Innovation 2016, we are delighted to see that there is clearly desire and commitment to sustainable growth of the Scottish aquaculture industry and we are ready to help businesses realise these growth ambitions
“Our support has allowed many aquaculture projects in the region to develop, including recently the establishment of a mussel hatchery at Scalloway to test the commercial feasibility of producing seed mussels. This project could offer huge opportunities in the future.”
“We have always recognised that developing a strong aquaculture industry has significant potential to support employment in many of the remote parts of the region but there are also great opportunities to develop the businesses providing goods and services to fish and shellfish farmers – and not just in Scotland but overseas as well.”
