Free export training for Shetland businesses looking to international markets

22 August 2012

Shetland businesses interested in moving into new international markets are signing up for a free-to-attend specialist export training programme to be held in Lerwick next week.

The Preparing to Export Programme, being offered by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), in partnership with Scottish Development International (SDI), aims to help companies develop the skills they need to reach new markets.

The two day course is part of a programme available to businesses across the region and is offered at three levels to meet the needs and experience of the individual companies. The session at The Shetland Hotel, Lerwick on Tuesday and Wednesday (28,29 August) is designed for those with limited experience in exporting.

HIE development manager, Stepanka Jurenova, said: "Eight local businesses have expressed an interest, but there are still spaces available, so if you are interested in attending please get in touch. The programme helps companies understand the basics of exporting, explores where to look for new opportunities and supports them to develop a practical export plan for business growth."

The programme is part of the Smart Exporter trade skills programme funded by HIE, the Scottish Chambers of Commerce and the European Social Fund, and run in partnership with Scottish Development International. It provides free or subsidised services for companies and individuals who wish to expand their exporting knowledge.
