Work is underway at the village hall in Torridon, Wester Ross which will provide facilities that will benefit the community and visitors alike.
Among the new features will be health and fitness rooms, conference facilities, exhibition space and multi-purpose rooms.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has supported the extension project with £82,000 along with funding from the Big Lottery and European funding through the Scottish Rural Development Programme (SRDP).
HIE representatives including HIE Chief Executive Alex Paterson and Chair of HIE Willy Roe visited the Torridon Hall during their Wester Ross business and community meetings last Friday (October 30).
The Torridon and District Community Association (TDCA) manages the hall which is used regularly by around 50 community groups.
Willy Roe, Chair of HIE said: "We had an excellent meeting with the TDCA who have been actively pursuing plans for this project for the last six years. It was inspiring to hear of their exciting plans for expansion as a vital community hub in a fragile area. This major facility within such a dynamic community is a great example of active community leadership and collaboration with HIE and shows the kind of work we are able to do as a result of its unique role as a community and economic development agency."
Donald Macdonald, chairman of the TDCA said: "Although the village hall has serviced the community well, it had become too small a resource for the community. We have been working with HIE for a number of years on our plans for expansion and had it not been for their support as well as the Big Lottery and other funders, the project would not have gone ahead. We were delighted to meet Willy Roe and Alex Paterson at Torridon and we look forward to seeing the hall which when completed will have a major impact on community life in the area."
