Demystifying foodservice conference in Edinburgh

18 May 2016

Taking place in Edinburgh on Thursday 2 June, Scotland Food & Drink’s Demystifying Foodservice conference brings together buyers and key decision makers with Scottish food and drink producers.

It offers an unparalleled opportunity for food and drink companies to build knowledge and explore potential sales opportunities within this important sector.

Foodservice offers a diverse growth opportunity with varied scope for scale as well as local and niche opportunities. The potential for sales makes it an important consideration in business growth plans.

The UK Eating Out market is worth *£83bn, and growing (+2.8%), performing ahead of retail. A highly fragmented sector, defined by restaurants and pubs; travel and leisure; food-to-go; and cost sector catering, the foodservice market is vibrant, forecasts further growth, and presents a huge opportunity for Scotland. *Source: MCA Jan 2015.

The conference will cover key insights from industry experts, including leading foodservice providers, buyers and suppliers to the sector. The agenda includes representatives from hotels, cafes and restaurants; visitor attractions, corporate dining, education and health care, travel hubs; prestigious venue catering, as well as wholesalers supplying the sector.

The strong line up boasts key note speakers and panel discussions with significant players including senior representatives from Bidvest, Brakes, CH&Co Group (whose brands include Ampersand, Catermasters and Chester Boyd among others), Entier, MacDonald Hotels, Sodexo, Compass and WSH Brands (whose brands include Baxter Storey, Caterlink and Benugo among others).

Scotland Food & Drink’s Access to Markets Manager Stephanie Pritchard commented: “The foodservice conference is part of our strategy to develop UK markets, while the sector presents a significant opportunity. The conference will be crucial to support food and drink producers to build a comprehensive understanding of foodservice producers. They will discover how the sector is structured, who the key operators are, its performance, the latest trends and how to establish routes to market.

“The high calibre of speakers and a strong agenda will offer attendees practical advice and tangible learnings about the opportunities and challenges within the foodservice sector as well as networking with key decision makers. Attendees will learn of foodservice companies’ plans for Scotland and explore opportunities relevant to their business. I’d encourage food and drink producers to attend, regardless of the scale of their current dealings with foodservice.”

Jonathan Williams, Group Purchasing Director of leading catering and hospitality company CH&Co Group will take part in the panel discussion. He explains, “CH&Co Group have made a commitment to Scotland and work to support the development of our suppliers for mutual benefit. Our established relationship with Scotland Food & Drink demonstrates our shared ambition to grow the sector through the expansion of our range of local suppliers and we work to source genuine, authentic, quality products from them.”

Sponsored by HBJ Gateley, the foodservice conference will take place on Thursday 2nd June 10am - 3.30pm ahead of the sold out Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards ceremony and dinner that evening.
