The owner of a far north cinema has faced down some of Scotland’s top business people in Dragon’s Den-style competition to win a £50,000 grant.
The Thurso Cinema opened last July saving local residents a 109-mile trip to the nearest picture house in Inverness.
The two-screen, 250 seat cinema saw off competition from more than 200 other applicants to secure the Scottish Government funding.
The money will be used to redevelop the full frontage of the cinema and to create a conferencing and events facility, as part of broader plans to establish a digital entertainment centre in the town.
The cash boost is part of more than £540,000 of funding which was awarded to the country’s brightest and most innovative start-ups.
The cinema was one of three winners who received the full amount sought.
