Bute Fabrics are today, 21 April 2014, celebrating being named as winners of a Queen’s Award for Enterprise – the UK’s highest accolade for business success.
They received the award for International Trade, in recognition of increased year on year export figures, and their responsible conduct in managing the company’s impact on society and the environment.
Managing Director James MacAdam Sprint said, “We’re delighted and honoured to have been recognised for the growth in our export sales over the last three years. Our focus in developing the strategic markets of the USA, Scandinavia and the Benelux countries has resulted in securing the future for all of the mill’s staff”.
The business has been supported by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), with HIE investing £200,000 in a loan to the business in 2013 to support them to develop new products, new markets and fund their ongoing growth. Scottish Development International, a partnership including HIE, worked with Bute Fabrics on its international ambitions.
David Smart of Highlands and Islands Enterprise commented: “We are delighted that James and his team at Bute Fabrics have won a Queen's Award for Enterprise for International Trade. The Queen’s Award’s for Enterprise are some of the most prestigious and internationally-recognised that a business can receive. Only last month the company was celebrating receiving £100,000 worth of orders for the new bespoke tartan range. To win an international trade award such as this is brilliant news and we congratulate everyone at Bute Fabrics for this achievement.”
