The family of Clive Dennier, the popular Highland newspaper reporter who died as the result of a hill walking accident earlier this year, is to receive the Barron Trophy, which is an annual award for lifetime achievement in journalism in the Highlands and Islands.
Family representatives will be presented with the trophy at the Highlands and Islands Press Ball and Media Awards being held at the Drumossie Hotel, Inverness on Friday 7 February, 2014.
Clive went missing on the weekend of 23/24 March after going hill walking in Kinloch Hourn. He suffered head injuries in a fall and his body was later recovered from a river.
Gordon Fyfe, Chairman of the Highlands and Islands Media Awards Judging Panel, said: “The Highland journalistic family lost one of its most popular members with the sudden and untimely death of Clive, who was an excellent newspaper reporter, being reliable fair and accurate at all times. He was also a very sociable person, who was a very good friend to many people in the newspaper industry.
“The Barron Trophy recognises lifetime achievement in journalism in the Highlands and Islands and we are unanimously of the view that Clive’s outstanding contribution to journalism in this distinctive corner of Scotland deserves our recognition. Clive will be sorely missed.”
